shimano hollowtech

Re-post deore crankset question?
The dish is a Shimano Deore Hollowtech mega9. currently working with a 7-speed cassette. I purchased a rear XT 8 Speed Mech (derailier) and wondered if the speed of Mech 8 is compatible with the dish vs 9 speed? obviously I need a 8 speed cassette to match. any help would be appreciated thanks
Ok. The cassettes 8 speed is greater than the speed of 7, one by what used to fit your freewheel. (8 and 9 speed have the same width) Use Rear Mech with their 7 speed set if you will, without having to change the freewheel, levers, cables, etc.
