what would be an update of the Shimano HG73, 9-speed chain?

Not much to do to improve chain unless you want to try to shave a few grams of sense getting a string of relatively hollow shafts or stainless steel one if you're in the often wet and mud. That chain is well and if you check the specifications with other chains, you will find that the weight and the force is approximately the same. The main price differences are due to surface finish. If it were me, I change to Sram or Shimano Wippermann because I hate having to use special bolts. Not a bad design idea, but it's a pain in the rear, the pins are expensive, and is easy to find yourself without one when you really need it.
