the establishment of a deflector on my Mountain Bike.?

Hello, I recently changed my shift knob to a X.9. and have a Shimano Deore front derailleur. My first question is, are they compatible together? Secondly, how is the cable tension created from scratch? everything I've read / seen only shows how to adjust the derailleur, and makes no mention of how to install the cable on the carousel? I just pull hard enough to get rid of the slack in the line and then the bracket? or I have to break the pliers and a wrench on it to get it, thank you very hard?.

first set of lower screw cap to be sit lined up on the small plate. then pull the cable and adjust joke not too fair, until you see the cable pad. then bak out of bounds under the screw 1 / 2 full turn. turn the crank and adjust the barrel adjuster on the shifter cable to get clearance. change through the gears to make sure to work well. tuning will be needed later extending cable.
