The search for a good woman's bicycle?

I've been looking for a bike for a while to replace my old schwinn Tour III. Now I really need speed up my search from my rear tire came on my Schwinn, and do not believe in investing in bicycle tires. Anyway, I'm thinking get a mountain bike because I want to start doing some road riding. The only thing is that every journey on the road. The most favored solution to this would be get a road and mountain bike, but I have enough money now, so I'm leaning toward the mountain bike. I know I do not want that hybrid bike because I want the suspension (total or only front I'm not sure). To get to the point, I want a lightweight mountain bike with suspension front-or all that falls within the range of $ 200 – $ 1,300. Any links or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You do not need a full suspension bike for the paths. If you are just riding bike paths, rail and roads that would get a hybrid bike.
